Research Themes - Psychology of Elite Performance

Collaboration into psychology of elite performance is the longest standing research link between the two institutions comprising IRESE.  Staff from both Universities focus research on areas such as Stress and performance, Mental toughness, Psychology of sports injuries, Life skill development, Motivation and Self-confidence

Based at Bangor University, the Institute for Psychology of Elite Performance (IPEP), was established in 2000 to develop excellence within business, sport and the military and is uniquely placed to integrate the lessons learned from performance-focused domains to understand, and positively impact, the psychological factors that underpin elite performance.  The vision of IPEP is simple: To be recognised as the world leader for research this field.

The Sport Psychology group at Cardiff School of Sport is the most established of the School’s research groups.  Staff examine a range of psychological factors within sport and physical education with particular focus on stress and emotion, mental toughness and psychology of sports injury.  The group’s members make an outstanding contribution to the discipline through many prestigious editorial board commitments.
