Impact of Research Excellence - Our wider contributions to the subject field

Researchers make major contributions to broad subject field, to the underpinning academic disciplines and sub-disciplines, and to professional practice. There is extensive involvement in senior Editorial Board roles across many sector-leading journals – European Journal of Sport Science, International Journal of Performance Analysis of Sport, Journal of Applied Sport Psychology, Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology, Journal of Sports Sciences, Leisure Studies, Sports Biomechanics, and The Sport Psychologist.There is also editorial board and advisory board membership for Annals of Tourism Research, British Medical Journal, Frontiers in Cognition, Journal of Sports Science and Medicine, Psychology of Sport and Exercise, Qualitative Research in Sport, Exercise and Health, Science et Motricité, Sports Medicine: Science and Practice.

Many IRESE researchers are involved in major peer review roles including the ESRC Peer Review College and the REF Sub-panel 26, as well as the AHRC, Arthritis Research UK, AXA, Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, British Academy, British Council, British Society of Veterinary Cardiology, Czech Science Foundation,Dunhill Medical Trust, EPSRC, European Commission Marie Curie Fellowships, European Society of Hypertension, Health Technology Assessment Programme, Heart Research UK, Leverhulme Trust, Medical Research Council, National Institute for Health Research, Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, South African MRC, and Wellcome Trust.

Some IRESE staff have also had a central influence on the strategic direction of subject associations / professional organisations: Association for Tourism in Higher Education, International Association for the Philosophy of Sport, International Society of Biomechanics in Sports, Leisure Studies Association, and British Psychological Society Division of Sport and Exercise Psychology.

Other IRESE members have also been centrally involved in the organisation of academic conferences: Annual London Marathon Science and Medicine Conference, Scientific Committee for the ICSEMIS 2012 Pre-Olympic Congress, and the Scientific Committee for the World Congress of Performance Analysis of Sport. There continues to be a significant presence of IRESE researchers at many subject-focused research conferences.
